How it works

Four rooms, one atlas.

The same four pages that greet you on first launch. Swipe through them once, or replay the guide any time from Settings.

  1. Discover

    A specimen for every day

Browse precious metals, gems, ores and oddities. Search by name, formula or property, and let Daily Discovery pick something new.

  2. Atlas

Read a specimen like a geologist

Every sheet gives the formula, hardness, density, lustre, streak, origin and where it is found, with the sources behind them.

  3. Lab

    Compare, test and identify

Put three specimens side by side, turn crystal models, watch deposits form and solve identification cases from real data.

  4. Collection

    Build your own drawer

Collect specimens, mark what you have studied, keep notes and earn small honours. Everything stays on this device.

The Lab

Six tools, one set of numbers.

Every comparison, diagram and case uses the values of the atlas, so what you learn in one place holds everywhere else.

  • Compare Specimens

Up to three specimens side by side in one table.

  • Property Explorer

Hardness, density, lustre and more in plain words.

  • Crystal Structure

Turn crystal models and see how structure shapes properties.

  • Origin Explorer

Watch veins, magma, seas, rivers and pipes make minerals.

  • Identify the Specimen

Name the specimen from field clues, then read why.

  • Fact or Fiction

Thirty statements about minerals, each explained.

Try it · Crystal Structure

Turn a crystal in your hand

A crystal's outside shape follows the repeating arrangement of its atoms. Mineralogists group every arrangement into seven systems by the lengths and angles of three axes.

Fact or Fiction1 of 30
“Diamond and graphite are both made of pure carbon.”

Judge a statement to start your tally.

Mohs Climber

Ten rungs from talc to diamond

The scratch ladder every geologist learns. Each mineral scratches the ones below it. Tap a rung to open its sheet.

Ruby and sapphire share rung 9: both are corundum, crystalline aluminium oxide.

The atlas

From gold dust to lightning glass.

40 specimens in five groups, each drawn from its own data: growth form, colours and lustre. Open any one to read its sheet.

Sources. Formulas, property ranges, localities and facts follow the Handbook of Mineralogy (Mineralogical Society of America), Mindat.org, the Webmineral database, the GIA Gem Encyclopedia, the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2025, the Manual of Mineral Science and the Meteoritical Bulletin Database. Each sheet in the app lists the entries it used.

Honours

Small honours, no streaks.

Days never expire, so nothing demands a visit. Open any day you missed — there is no streak to keep.

  • Fully offline

No network requests at all. The whole atlas lives inside the app.

  • No account

Your profile, name and emblem live only on this device.

  • No ads or tracking

No analytics and no third-party services. Nothing is uploaded.

  • Your own pace

A Daily Discovery waits for you, and past days stay open.
